Axum Zion (Hidar Zión) celebration at Axum


The Hidar (November) Zion festival is related to the presence of the Ark of the Covenant in Axum und with the belief that it is a symbol for St. Mary’s womb. Every year thousands of pilgrims from all over Ethiopia gather in Axum, the holiest city of the Ethiopians, to celebrate this festival.

The fascinating annual celebration of this festival falls on November 30, and has an Old Testament origin. The festival is directly associated with the Ark of the Covenant as described in the Bible (Samuel I). It commemorates the festival honors the entrance of the Ark of the Covenant into Ethiopian.
